Scope creep can be a killer that can turn a small-fry project into a big old shark.
First you’re being asked to do one small project, and soon enough it spirals into a monster of a task that’s eating up all of your time. You’re left with a ton of work, often with very little support. It can be really overwhelming, especially when you have a million things on your plate.
Personally, I’ve found the best way to manage expectations and scope creep is clear and consistent communication.
It can’t be a one-way-street. Both the assignor and assignee need to be honest and transparent. By setting these boundaries and expectations, you can set the standard for what your co-workers will ask of you.
I’m curious though, how do you and your team manage scope creep?
